The school was founded in 1929, and it is known as one of the oldest college in the Eastern Iowa Community College District. The district also includes Scott Community College and Clinton Community College.
Muscatine Community College offers arts and sciences degrees, college transfer classes and courses, as well as several career technology programs. Students can avail of the transfer program that allows students to use their 2 year degree as credit and transfer to a 4 year college and university and continue their studies to earn a 4 year degree. The main campus’ most recent addition has been the Muscatine Industrial Technology Center. The center features several manufacturing related programs and courses. In 1961, the Muscatine Community College Foundation was founded to support the college's educational programs, its student and the development of the staff. It also aims to improve facilities and alumni programs. The school mainly works through student scholarships and loans. The center awards more than $230,000 each year for MCC student tuition fees, and school supplies.
Muscatine Community College is a member of the NJCAA and the Iowa Junior College Athletic Association. The school fields teams in baseball, basketball, men and women’s cross country, men and women soccer, softball and volleyball. The school colors are red and yellow and the school nickname are the Cardinals.
